Missionary Heroes – pen and colored pencil, March 2011

A fellow missionary asked me to do a picture depicting him, five other Elders here in western New York, and our Mission President as different heroes from The Book of Mormon, and geez I can’t say “no”! It was kinda hard too – I had to characterize two distinct people and merge them into one. . . so much fun!!
How well do you know your Book of Mormon characters? Can you guess who is who?
From left to right we have Nephi (as Elder Olsen), Zeezrom (as Elder Lachaga)(in the bed), Captain Moroni (Elder Cook), Mormon (President Christianson . . . I’m sorry I made you look old!), King Mosiah (Elder Westley), Moroni (Elder Hunt)( kneeling), and Alma the younger (Elder Lewis).
Something I love about the Book of Mormon is that each and every hero within its pages are so memorable and rich with personality. Each is unique, but there is one unifying trait of them all: their unyielding faith in our Savior Jesus Christ. If you haven’t ever read this book I EXHORT you to do so or continue doing so so that you can become more like these heroes. It will change your life. I know it has changed mine. When you read the scriptures (the Bible and Book of Mormon alike) you are supposed to apply them to your own life. Nephi said “I did liken all scriptures unto us, that it might be for our profit and learning” (1 Nephi 19:23). Search for yourself while you read – see how the stories apply to YOU. I know you can learn great lessons from every story in the Book of Mormon. The whole thing truly is for our profit and learning.

About sisterweber

I am currently a Mormon missionary serving in western New York for The Church of Jesus Chirst of Latter-Day Saints! Let me tell you how strange I am currently - I don't watch tv or any form of entertainment; I left behind my family, home, school, and art I love so so much; I'm working 6 days a week, 14 hours a day to bring people unto Christ; I'm not getting paid (I'm actually paying); and I CHOSE to do it! The reason why? I know this is the most important thing I could ever do. I know that there is nothing in all the world that can bring people greater happiness than the Gospel of Jesus Christ in its fulness. This message I'm sharing with people is unique and true. God loves all of us so much that He has restored the church Jesus Christ set up onto the earth again, and all people have a right to know. Everyone has a right to be as happy as I am.

Oh wow! Awesome depiction of Book of Mormon Heroes! You did good, Hermana Weber! I just read about Zeezrom… Those Elders should be awed to be honored like that. Wish there were more female heroes in the Book of Mormon….

So amazing Hermana Weber! I love this! I think I need to read up on Zeezrom tomorrow!
